The Mercedes CL is a special kind of car. That’s not just because of it’s high price and “near flagship” status within the Mercedes stable.
It’s also because it’s a stunningly quick car that draws almost no attention to itself and yet it can amaze its passengers just about every second of the day.
No matter how good it can be, in the tuning world there’s always somebody who thinks he can do better. A lot of these somebodies work at Prior Design.
The German tuner came up with widebody package they call the V2. That’s probably the stupidest idea ever.
If there’s ever anything to tune about the Mercedes CL, the exterior is not it. I’m not a big fan of the styling, but its sedate appearance is a big part of its appeal.
Throwing that away seems pointless but Prior Design don’t have any idea of how wrong they’re going about their business regarding the CL.
Interestingly, they didn’t mention how by how much the Mercedes CL would be widened for but they did release a full gallery of their new creation.
I’m not impressed and nor am I interested in the lowering of the suspension that’s teamed with the more uncomfortable looking wheels.
Overall however, the new paint job, the new shapes and the added decals seem to make for a fresh military aircraft like take on the Mercedes CL.
If only the Germans would have kept to their usual engineering party trick and fitted the big coupe with an engine developing some aircraft-grade power…
